High Gain Q's

Post by scott_s »

I've heard from someone that the polepieces on High gain pickups are adjustible, once the plastic caps are removed -- is this true? If so, it'd make it very convenient when switching between a plain and wound 3rd string.

Thanks!

A) There are no plastic caps on Hi Gain polepieces. That's the end of the pole.

B) Any attempt to adjust these will likely damage the coil inside the pickup.

Mr. Hall, is that just for the "new" higains ("new" meaning '90s untill now )? I have a '76 4001. Are those higains non-adjustable, also? I do remember seeing higains that looked like they can be adjustable with an allen wrench.(?) Those higains, I suspect are older than mine.

As I am considering switching to a wound G, I am curious as to how modifying the pole piece would be helpful. Is it too high on your guitar? I just thought I would have to re-intonate.
