I bit the bullet and ordered a new 4003FG yesterday. I'm selling my old 1982 Peavey T20 bass on eBay if anyone is interested. It IS butt ugly but it should go fairly cheap:

Douglas,
I will have to take issue with your ebay ad. You state you are getting a Ric and it's "the Cadillac of basses." That is incorrect. According to John Hall Ric's are "the Mercedes-Benz of basses" ;-)

I like to think of it as the Ford GT of basses.

LMAO! Thanks for the laugh Rikk! I can't believe John would favor German over US made products!

You don't imagine I'd value my life more than that?

Anyway, on reflection, I probably should have said Porsche. Quality, performance, nice sound, low production, and much closer to Switzerland than Detroit.

Scott,
The Harley of basses maybe, as long as you exclude the AMF years.

Douglas,
I think you'll be surprised at how much that T-20 sells for. I have my eye on it, they are excellent, quality made basses that nobody gives the old Peavey T series basses credit for. I own 2 T-20's, 2 T-40's and a T-45. All wonderful sounding. Peavey came out with the neck tilt feature before Fender copied them. I'll take an old Peavey any day....but you are correct, they are NOT in any way shape or form a Rickenbacker Image So I applaud you for your new purchase!!!

Thanks Scott! I guess I've been knocked by others so much about the T20's looks... (oh sh*t man! Those Peavey T's are butt ugly basses!) that I forget that they are quality US built instruments. The tilt neck is a fine feature and easy to use. The bass has substantial sound (nice big bridge) compare to some of the el cheapo Fenders out there.

John,

Porche sounds good to me! I'll change my ad to reflect this sentiment! ;)

I guess there would be no US car manufacturer that would fit those parameters? Like DeLorean... ummm.... forget I said that.
