Hi guys,
I am having a hard time getting notes to ring true playing open chords on my 360/12. Bar chords sound fine but my Jangle is suffering. I have noticed improvement changing my attack to the proper straight in position, Duh! Any pointers when it comes to a twelve string? thanks!

Gerry, I have found that you need to be a great deal more precise with your fingering & the only thing that will do it is practise. Better thumb placement on the back of the neck & straight fingers on the fretboard are a real neccessity. I honestly think that playing a Ric 12 has made me a better player, as I now tend to finger better on a 6 string as well.

There's no denying it's trickier than a 6 Gerry. I only recently got my 360/12 and am noticing the benefits of practise already.
If you're still having problems, there are some adjustments you can make to your nut to improve string spacing. And there's a good few threads about that....

The best way I can tell you on the fingering of open chords simply is to make sure you are using your finger tips straight on. This, for me anyway, is true for any 12 you are playing. I have rather big hands and open chords on my Rics are not a problem.

Of course, a good hard fingertip is quite essential, too. Keep practicing and build up those callouses!

Try using a lighter touch (don't press the strings down so hard). I think you'll be surprized how much clearer the resulting sound is.
Works for me...

I know we're talking about the fretting hand, but if you're using a plectrum, don't dig in so much. If you want jangle, gently brush the strings with a heavy, firm pick. I actually prefer those small ones that are supposed to be for playing jazz. They work really well.
