In praise of the 4001C64

I received a C64 about a week before Christmas and set it up with TI Jazz Flats. Man it felt great in my hands! I loved the thinner neck profile since it worked well with my small hands. And a friend listened to it compared to some of my other basses and said it was more articulate than some of my others. I contemplated getting another one so I could set it up with roundwounds and use it in place of my 4003 on stage.
No sooner than I made that decision, a used Mapleglo one showed up at Bass Emporium. I ordered it and put a set of TI Superalloy rounds on it. The neck felt like like a glove and I could get a nice warm yet punchy sound by rolling off the bridge pickup's tone control.
I took it to practice last night and it was a big hit! It hit almost every tone I needed that night! The drummer liked the warm tone the toaster gave the C64 on the R&B stuff and the horseshoe delivered a nice attack for the rock material. It had a very wide tonal palette and delivered the goods!
The final outcome is that I'm selling my 4003 and the MG C64 and Modulus Quantum 5 will be my main gigging basses.
