Sighting!

I was watching Law & Order last night - the cops are looking around this dead girls apartment and there's a bunch of stereo and recording equipment, a little marshall practice amp, and a really nice looking 4003 in fireglo on a stand.

(while looking at the Rick)
Cop1 - "I always wanted to learn how to play guitar"
Cop2 - "Actually, it's a bass - a Rickenbacker"
Cop1 - "Is that good?"
Cop2 - "It was good enough for Elvis!"
Cop1 - "I didn't know he played bass" (or something like that)
Cop2 - "Actually, I was talking about Elvis Costello"

Did Costello really play bass, or a Rick for that matter? I've never really listened to his stuff. It was a cool sighting, though!

Not an Elvis C. expert here, but I seem to remember him playing guitar. Fender Jags or Jazzmasters IIRC.

Yeah, I've seen that once or twice. Of course, the actor Jerry Orbach who played Lenny Briscoe died last year. I remember when I first saw it, I was just starting to get interested in Ricks again. I e-mailed a contact at RIC and he mentioned that he had help make that "market placement" happen. Neat.

I was never aware of Elvis Costello playing bass. He may have though . . . I was never a big fan . . . all I know is that he started out playing an old Jazzmaster. That's pretty much the extent of my knowledge.

Elvis' longtime bassist with the Attractions, the underrated Bruce Thomas, used a F*nd*er. You can hear snippets of a Rick guitar here and there on Elvis' records.

Wasn't it Costello[the Comi bas--rd] that talked McCartney into using the Hofner instead of the Ric.

If Lou played bass, what would it be?

And would Stinky give it "such a pinch"?
