The guy who bought my 91 4001CS has decided he doesn't like it and wants me to refund his money.

I told him before he bought it if its messed up truss rods screwed up...I would take it back.

No he says he just doesn't like it, so I told him take pictures of whats wrong with it and we will discuss it,he wont do this, but wants his money back.

What do you guys think?

Maybe he popped the fretboard or something?

I would be very hard (well neigh impossible?) to pop the fingerboard on a CS with just the trusses.

I would tell him to send you back the bass . If it checks out give him a refund . If not send the bass back explaining the damages and he will have to keep the bass .

Did you have an agreement that he had an approval period?

No approval period, I said only if something is wrong with it.

Ken, if he lives in the metro Detroit area, I would be happy to meet and talk to him about the bass. I could then give you an idea of what is going on with the guy and his issues.

My other thought is, if he just doesn't like the bass, I'd offer to take it back on the following conditions.

1) Contact the other bidders to see if they want to buy the bass, and at what price.

2)Advise your buyer of what the resale price is, and that will be his refund amount pending the new buyers inspection and approval.

2)He ships the bass to the new buyer. If all is well, your buyer gets what the new buyer is willing to pay.

If there is a difference, that's what it costs to have a CS shipped to your house to play for fun.

Good luck and let us know

How long has he had it. Most dealers give up to 48 hours
approval period.
Were the rods messed up before he bought it and was this
fact disclosed.
I'm a bit of a hard nose on this. If it's beyond 48 hours then
tough. If he knew about the rods in advance, yet still took the bass- well, 48 hours is enough time to figure that one out.
What it boils down to Ken is, you aren't G-****, don't be treated like it.

I agree with you J Gary.
It's how folks would come to GC, buy an instrument, then return it a month later = free 1 month rental.

Nothing is wrong with the bass,I kept asking him What don't you like about it alls he would say is I just don't want it.

See he has two other CS s and was telling me about how one of them is messed up I wonder if hes swapping parts or what..very strange the neck is straight the action low it plays like a champ sounds great its almost mint????

Now that I think of it I don't think he has a CS at all he could not tell me what # his were, don't you think you would know.

Looking back to see what hes buying off ebay its all Fender p basses no wonder hes a Fender guy that decides hes going to try out a Ric. and discovers he doesn't like it.

That would explain why he couldn't tell me whats wrong with it, He doesn't know Ric's and there was nothing wrong with it he just isnt used to it.

Proceed with caution Ken.

I would tell him that you held up your end of the bargain, your item was as described, and you did nothing to warrant a return, you didn't misrepresent the item in any way. I've bought things that I didn't like, I re-sold them. He could probably make a few bucks off of the deal.
Sounds like he spent more than he could afford and now has regrets. I'd tell him that you are under no obligation to return / refund it.
