Hello to all, I'm new to the boards! I was wondering if anyone could help me in my quest to discover the Rickenbacker 12-string model with the thickest neck. Not the widest, mind you, but the thickest, fattest neck. Like most other companies, Rickenbacker doesn't include neck thickness in their specs.

I know slim necks are a hallmark of Rics, but I need a thick neck to be comfortable. All of my guitar heroes (Harrison, Townshend, et alia) have used the 360/12, but I've tried a modern 360/12 and found the neck to be too slim.

I know the 660/12 has a wider neck than other Rics. Does that also translate into the thickest neck?

Someone help me out here. I've gotta have that Ric 12-string sound! Thanks so much.

Jay, the 330 & 360 neck depths vary tremendously. I have tried a couple of 12's with really chunky necks (not to my liking). I would try some used ones in the 2002-2004 year range & I am willing to bet that you will come across one pretty soon.

BTW, welcome to the forum. I am the opposite, love the thin slinky necks. But don't worry...there's a Ric 12 with a chunky neck out there for you!

This is a tough one Jay, because as Tony said, basically all neck thicknesses vary on Ricks. You need to really try a bunch out and find one to your likeing.

I just went from a 370/12 to a 660/12 - the 370/12 had a much chunkier neck.

I believe (untested by measurement) that most Rick necks these days are CNC profiled. I know that there are a few exceptions, but this holds true for the most popular models.

In the area around the first fret, the neck on my 2005 660/12 is about 1/8" thinner in depth (checked with a big caliper gizmo) than the same spot on my 360/12 (about five years old). If you switch back and forth, the back of the 360 neck feels rounder in your hands.

Well, you can't get any thicker than the neck on my 730S/12. It's thicker than my 4003! I sure wish I had a caliper gizmo to measure. UNREAL!

My mid 90's 620/12 has a pretty chunky neck.
