I am big fan of Dave Meros - Spock`s Beard playing style and Tone. I especially dig the early albums up until "Snow" and "Octane", in which he plays with his Rickenbacker that sports 4 Jazz pickups and do not like his Tone as much. Just listen to "V", and you will hear a wonderful aggressive Rickenbacker Tone !!!!

Anyway, I think he mentioned he commissonned Rickenbacker to build him a custom Bass, am I correct ??? It would be so great to have a similar Bass as him, maybe a Signature series ??? Certainly not with 4 Jazz pickups !!!

"V" is one of the greatest albums I have ever heard. One of best bass tones as well, and some of the best bass-playing . . . Dave Meros is a favorite of mine. I actually think his bass tone sounds just fine with the 4 jazz pickups ("Octane" was a great album, "Feel Euphoria" not so much), but then again, the "V" Ric sound is so absolutely gorgeous.

If a Dave Meros signature bass existed, I'd have to see it before I bought it, though. I'm really picky when it comes to how basses look . . . but it would sound amazing, I bet.

"V" is definitely one of my top 5 favorites of all time. The other Neal Morse-era albums ain't no slouches either.

My personal favorite is "The Kindness of Strangers", but they all feature great bass playing. As I recall Dave attributes a lot of his sound to his DigiTech pre amp, although even with this

and the preamp he used on "Beware of Darkness" (purchased from Steph) I don't come close to his sound. Maybe DigiTech will come up with a Meros pedal to go along with the Clapton and Hendrix models.

He plays a lot more fingerstyle since Neal left the band, and I think he changed strings from DR HiBeams to Lo Riders, which may account for his somewhat less aggressive tone.

I haven't heard anything about a custom Ric (not that he checks in with me), but I do know he was having problems with this one:

As I recall the wings were starting to separate from the neck; he had someone at Ed Roman's fix it.

Lindsay,

I agree that "Kindness of strangers" and "Beware of darkness" have wonderful Rickenbacker bass Tone !!! I tried as much as I can to recreate it using his own Digitech preamp pedal but like you know, I also could not !!!!

I thought maybe you with his own bass, and with his own Digitech preamp, you could but I guess Dave Meros has to add his magic touch to it !!! :-)

He's having problems with the Jetglo Rick (pictured above)? He's not the only one.
