Australian Confluence...any takers?

G'day Aussie Forumites,
This is a tentative feeler for a possible Aussie confluence. Where, when and IF might be discussed here. I'd hope all Aussie forumites might at least post to this thread and declare if they would be interested. I know there's only a small band of us that post but there may be some lurkers as well. Anyone who doesn't want to post would be welcome to contact me at [email protected]
Oh, and overseas visitors would be more than welcome I'm sure

Aye, Gerry! Location would certainly need discussion, but I'm certainly keen. Can't do it at Easter or from mid August to mid October, but apart from that.....

I think you guys are just trying to break my perfect Confluence attendance record. Well, it had to happen eventually.

How about Dec, then we can go to the cricket

1) We could go the city that has the most forumites already living there.
or
2) We could count the number of Rickenbackers, and go the the city that has the most actual guitars already there.
or
3) We could go to the house of the person who owns the most amps!

So, Bails.... looks like Melbourne at this stage, eh?. Image

I take it you have a lot of amps, then?

I'm open to any suggestions.... the idea of carting 9 Ricks (could be more by Dec.) across the Nullaboor might dampen my enthusiasm, however. Maybe a couple in a plane......

I do own a few, but more importantly, I don't want to have to lug them anywhere, especially interstate. If someone already owns a few amps, it saves the hasssle of bringing our own. That said, my house is too small to accommodate people - all the space is taken up by guitars, amps and bicycles. Between four housemates we own 20 guitars, 8 amplifiers and 10 bikes - none of us play or ride professionally.

I'm interested, but unlikely to be able to attend. But go for it, guys.

Well, I thought Melbourne as most of you guys live there. I'd fly across with 2 or 3 ricks. Jetstar have $99 flights now so that's easy enough.

I'm definitely in. Howard, Greg and I caught up together last year in Melbourne for an unofficial mini-confluence and we agreed that it would be a great idea to organise a bigger event this year open to all Forumites.

There's at least four of us in Melbourne (Aitch, Darren, Mark, Greg) and with Gerry being prepared to fly from Perth I'd suggest Melbourne is probably the most popular choice of location. Both Howard's collection and my collection have grown since the photo below was taken.

Howard, where's Ron Viney located? I'm sure he would be in this too, eh?

Finding a venue should not be a problem. I'm sure we can locate an appropriately sized function room for a small charge.

What we could really use though is one of those nice blue satin Rickenbacker promotional banners from the late 50s. Got any to spare JH? Image. In fact, it's probably time that the Hall family took a vacation Downunder and paid us Aussies a visit!

Hi Darren. I've mentioned this thread to Ron who's in Mebourne. I'll happily do anything I can to assist other members in other states to make it down here (if this is the venue of choice) including accommodation. I have two spare rooms, plenty of spare beds and a sofa bed, so there's no problem there. I also have room for two extra vehicles - one under cover, one not. Oh... and the 'ridgy didge' will be well stocked!!

Gerry,

Take a hot air balloon to Melbourne! My partner at Labwork www.labwork-bw.com did a Perth to Sydney trip in the '80s.

John Hall and family were in NZ in December so he probably did hit up Aus.

Ok, well Melbourne it is by the looks of it. Imagine chucking my Ricks out if a balloon to lighten the load...
I take it we won't need the crown casino ballroom then?

Don't think so, Gerry. I have a friend who works at Telstra Dome.... want me to check availability in December? ImageImage
