I wanted to start this thread as a kind of a spin off from the "when I was 17" thread in the bass section. There where quite a few people that listed some of the good old bands they saw back in the day. This may or may not have anything to do with Ric's depending on the bands, but I would be interested in seeing what classic bands people saw.

Hmmm lets see if I can remember some.

Grand Funk, Ten Years After, Dr. John, Foghat, Black Oak Arkansas, The Greatful Dead, Steve Miller, The Band, Bob Dylan, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Tower of Power, Huey Lewis, Three Dog Night, Wings, Johnny Winter, Edgar Winter, Deep Purple, The Pretenders, Wishbone Ash.

I wish I would have been a little older to see The Doors, and Hendrix.

I have thousands of concert stubs over the years...I also used to work security at a concert venue so I saw lots of them, from Willie Nelson to Metallica to Loverboy.

Some who stick out...Eric Johnson, Cheap Trick (52 times), Steve Miller, Kings X, Rush (every tour since 1980), Kiss (many times), Metallica (with Cliff in July 1986), the Crue, Scorpions, SRV with Jeff Beck, Van Halen, Monsters of Rock with Van Hagar, Great White, pretty much every 80's metal band I saw at least once, Ted Nugent, Seger, the Stones, the Who many times, Pink Floyd, but I never got to see Zeppelin.

Paul McCartney 3 times (1989, 2003 in Rome, 2003 in Budapest), Police, Simon and Garfunkel, Dido

I'd have to say seeing McCartney in 89 was the biggest thrill for me. Accually seeing a Beatle live....I was awestruck!!

Another one that really stands out for me was seeing Warren Zevon at the Chestnut Cabaret in Philly in the early 90's...man could he simply rock the house!!

ZZ Top, Heart, BTO, Rush (Counterparts tour), Primus, King Crimson, Me'Shell N'dgeo'cello (I hate typing her name...), Bad Brains (huge influence on me), Dave Matthews band, Phish (it was free, sue me!) Beastie Boys, Coheed and Cambria (long before they were known!),Blues Traveler, Lenny Kravitz, Helmet, Fugazi (last two being personal faves), numerous incarnations of what used to be The Band, Joey Ramone acoustic, Rage Against the Machine, Willie Nelson, Everlast, the list continues but my brain doth not...

Not a major concert fan, but here are some interesting ones:

Best show ever: Peter Gabriel, Christmas time, 1982 at the Universal Amphitheater for his "Security" album tour.

Utterly unbelievable. The crowd surfing in "Lay Your Hands on Me" was unforgettable.

Not too many concerts for me to list:

Peter Gabriel 3X, The Police (actually worked front of stage, right in front of Sting on Ghost in the Machine tour, he was very cool), U2 on WAR tour and 3x after that, Billy Squier, Huey Lewis, Yes on Drama tour, McCartney 3x, Heart 3x, Allman Brothers, Bowie, Elton, Billy Joel, David Lee Roth with Vai, Vai himself several times, Missing Persons, the Knack, and Frank Zappa (many times, but once I saw him 3 nights in a row at the same 3000 seat theater, and he did totally different sets every night!)

Summer of 1989 - I saw, over the space of a few months, Eric Johnson and Joe Satriani; John McClaughlin and Steve Morse; Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughan (with Carlos Santana sitting in). Johnson and Morse were excellent - but Beck at the Oakland Coliseum was probably the best show I've ever seen. Awesome.

First concert: Seals and Crofts, Illinois State Fair, ca. 1972. Most recent: Steve Hackett Trio last November (but BB King is coming up a week from Sunday!) In between: Ted Nugent (3+), Cheap Trick (3+), Yes (3), Pat Metheny (3), Starcastle (3+), ELP (2), Genesis (2), Kansas, Head East, Spirit, Rush, Heart, Foreigner, BB King, Albert King, Peter Frampton, Jethro Tull, Outlaws, Moody Blues, UK, Ramones, Psychedelic Furs, Gang of Four, Missing Persons, Romantics, and James Taylor. No doubt have forgotten some.

My favorites so far: Pretenders (Fall 1980) and Talking Heads (Fall 1982).
