Following from another thread, here are some pics of a 73
I had bought for parts....
From the online photos, I could not tell that she has checkers!

I still took all the parts off; they're fun to play with as I decide her fate....

Bring her back to life. You know you won't be sorry.

She must be a May - Aug 73. Up to and including April, they still had full width MOP inlays.

Your right on with the DOB- her serial # is MF.
I'm toying with making a new neck-through.
Maple w/Walnut ears and a short peghead like a 71.
Gotta make her a Fireglo!
The inlays will have to be Diamondite/like....

The change for full width inlays must have been done in April. My ME doesn't have them Looks like a fun project though.

Bring her back to stock! What exactly is wrong with her? I see a crack there, but it's really hard to tell the extent of the damage. You think she could be repaired using the existing structure? I love '73 Jetglos!

Just a guess but I would say that she was exposed to a lot of moisture for an extended period. Perhaps stored in a damp basement. The 'crack' is actually a delamination of the neck slab where the glue has decayed and allowed the wood to separate back into it's component parts. I have one exactly like it on my project pile.

But it has been pretty poorly repaired...
I also think that the early peg placement was cooler.
We'll see....
I'm considering a square heal/no-volute/long peghead.....
Who knows at this point.....

I drove to auburn hills to look at that bass a month ago . I almost bought it but i just couldnt see laying out 600.00 for it and having to put another grand in it . It is certainly fixable . And even with the split neck it was straight as an arrow . The split alignment however did need fixing though .A hypodermic and some tight bond and clamping would have worked better than drilling that nutty hole in the top of the peghead . Some idiot had sanded off the top dots too . Other than that it is a pretty good find for a project bass . Better you than me though lol .

I got a little better than that.
As I said, I bought it for parts. When I did the math
on what that stuff would run me separately, it came
to a little more than that.
I figure now I got a set of checkered body wings to boot.
The value I perceived was in the parts alone- the wood
is a bonus.
That goofy hole in the headstock is for a screw!

If the neck wasn't split, I'd love to have the body, but it needs too much work.
