Did these normally show up with Rick-O-Sound? Also, a funky two piece neck. Strange or should I just go back to the guitars section, lol.

I think anything goes, with the early 80's basses. This one is an odd ball.
John, you are always welcome on the dark side over here. Image

Cool bass. Not run-of-the-mill at all....

I've got an 82 one of these 2 piece neck/rick o sound/split scratchplate 'S' basses, in autumnglo - it gets a lot of use as its so "solid" feeling and sounding, and if others are put off by these quirks I'll certainly sneak a bid in - they're great!

That construction was apparently the norm early on for the 4003. I have seen 5 or 6 in the last year alone on Ebay.

I had an '82 Azureglo that was like this, it was a killer bass, I'd love to have it back. Had Ric-O-Sound as well.
