Painting binding

I want to make the white binding on one of my basses black. Has anyone done this? I was wondering if permanent marker will work or what paint you might use. I also thought about getting some auto pinstriping material and laying it over the existing binding.
Any suggestions? Thanks

Neither Magic Marker nor pinstriping tape will work for this with any kind of integrity or permanence. The tape will begin to peel immediately, and the Magic Marker will fade and mark up your clothing and skin wherever the two contact.
Try not to think "quick and dirty". You will devalue your bass and irritate yourself and others with this sort of hack work.
Why paint the binding? Sell the bass and buy an unbound one.

You can go to a hobby shop and get black lacquer. Clean the guitar with lighter fluid, this will remove all wax and allow the lacquer to stick. Using 360 wet dry sand paper, sand the area to be painted. Tape off the binding area with vinyl tape(auto stores carry this) spray the area with black lacquer, then put several coats of clear lacquer over the black. Pull off the tape and you'll have a DIY job that will serve your purpose.

Thanks for the suggestions. I certainly don't want to do the quick & dirty.

'I certainly don't want to do the quick & dirty.'
It has its place, Erik.

Erik, you might want to take some pictures of the process for posterity's sake.

Or take some pictures of your posterior for the process's sake...
