I know I read it here somewhere but I can't find it now. Is there a mod you can do to a 4003 to make it bassier by changing the value of a pot... or was it a cap?

Also, I find the stock 4003 pickups a tad too hot, is there a way to curb their bite besides sinking them into the body?

That question makes me think of pit bulls for some reason...

By the way, I consider myself a 'Pot Mod'...

a 4001/4003 come with 250k ohm volume pots and 500k ohm tone pots ... if you swap out the 500k ohm tone pots for 250k ohm tone pots it will be a little warmer and the treble will be reduced slightly ... I did this to a 76 4001 and put in a neck toaster as well and it sounded awesome ...

Actually try running the volume at 8 or less ... this will make it bassier and not as hot ... my 2020 bass has 15k ohm hb2 pickups and I rewired it v,v,t with 1000k ohm pots ... I find that for the most part I run the bridge pickup about 9 and the neck at 7 or 8 ... then when I need a little extra boost I bump the bridge volume to 10 ...

when you back the volume down from ten the tone gets smoother and the treble gets cut ... that's why I like 2 pickup basses ... one for growl and one for smoothness and with two volume controls I can blend them ...

Can changing pots increase the treble? I'd like to do that to my 4001.

My FenderRickenBird project has 500k Pots, the HB1's have a good amount of treble as a result.
