Greetings to all:
I've got a 77 4001 with a very weak neck pickup. Pretty sure it needs replacing. Anyone have one to sell?
Thanks,
Gregg

Hi, Gregg. Welcome back. I've e-mailed a message to you. Check your 'mail box'.
Can you measure the ohm rating of the pickup? Preferably this should be done with the p.u. disconnected from the circuit.

Hello Sergio:
I'll hopefully be able to do this Sunday night. My guitar tech is gone on tour and should be back Sunday. We resurrected this bass from the dead. It was a real mess. It's looking pretty damn good now except for this pickup. This bass will be going to a very good friend's son, who is turning into quite the bass player. His first Ric. This bass has a great neck and virgin trussrods. Still has overspray on the adjuster nuts! Original finish isn't too bad. Replaced the tuners. It's white with black binding.

I like the sound of a 70's Ric with a 70's high gain in the bridge and a current/new high gain in the neck ... the new high gains are a little hotter and thicker ... this will give the Ric a little more bottom while still keeping the treble bite ...
So I would say try putting a new neck pickup in instead of a used one ...

Gregg, can you post a pic of the bass?
I'm glad to know it has found a good home. Now, should it need a new neck pickup you know who to turn to...

Gregg, thanks for a fine picture. And the old-style knobs look good on the black pickguard. Another fine 4001.
Hey, no problem. I'm always willing to help out fellow Rickenbacker owners/players.

What years did the pick ups have screws for pole pieces?

Good question, Kendall. That would be the early version of the high-gain pickup, more specifically of the 4001 treble high-gain. I guess it was introduced circa '69 and discontinued early '73. Anyone knows differently?
