Does someone know exactly when Ric stopped taking special orders (due to backlog issues)?

Do you mean for custom features on guitars? This has never been available to the general public in the time I have been into Rickenbackers, which is 10 years now. Artists of note, and certain powerful purchasers have been able to swing one-offs or custom runs. But in general, it has been many years since the average Joe could ask for special features.

Specifically I am interested in left-handed stuff--I seem to remember reading that sometime last year they stopped taking orders on anything non-standard until they could clear some of their backlog.

I have an order in from last April, but I get a little panicky about whether the order actually "went in". The waiting is the hardest part (hey, that sounds like a good idea for a song...).

Oh! I am not sure about that type of order. I never heard that they has suspended orders like LH.

I think that left-handed orders are still being taken. There have been many left-handed Rickenbackers shipped within the last two months or so...whether your order was submitted or not would be the respnsibility of your dealer...you may want to check.

Hi Dan, I was at the local Rick dealer in town last week asking about a 4003 with the new tone switch. As we went through the order book I noticed the section on special orders, which includes lefties, it had in bold lettering, 18 month order time.

It appears you may order a LH, but you better pack a lunch.

Shoot, you could probably learn to play the "right" way by then.

Yeah, I guess I was mistaken on the order thing--thanks everyone for the info. The wait is tough, but what are ya gonna do? Quality is quality, and it will be worth it in the end! In the meantime, the air guitar doesn't require tuning.

And the Rickenbacker Air Guitar is a most impressive piece of kit, as you no doubt will discover.

Actually, my air guitar is a Tokai. How long is the wait for a RAG? Does anyone know of a good Air Guitar Forum? I'm completely self-taught, and I'm afraid my technique is a little sloppy.
