Variable cap mod

I've followed instruction for a variable cap mod using the treble tone pot as a variable cap. I found this on the Dudepit forum.
With just the bridge volume up (switch is centred) it seems muddy (like the tone knob is off). As I blend in the neck pickup the tone seems to get brighter. It sounds not as bright as the normal circuit.
Can anyone help, it's bugging the s**t out of me!!!

That was my mod, I was fooling around with a 4001 bass a few years ago, figured it out and posted it both here and at the dudepit. The only problem I encountered with it was that both volumes had to be on full or near it or there was treble bleed to ground which got more and more noticable as one volume control was turned down. It never bothered me as I always kept my volumes close to or on full and I usually kept the basses on cap bypass all the way anyway so I really didn't experiment with it anymore to figure out why it did that. I still have one bass wired like that.

Thanks Bob. I thought I had done something wrong. I prefer the cap-ped sound myself. I just wanted the option of a capless sound for more flexibility. Aaah, well. I'll reverse what I've done and go back to the cap-ped sound. Thanks....

You can always put a switch in like the new Rics, find out what they have and buy one, maybe they sell them on the website.
