Just a quick question on Rickenbacker 350's - Does anyone know what model years were produced with Hi Gain pick ups as opposed to the Toaster style pick ups?

I think when they were introduced in '85 they had Hi Gains but for how many years afterwards I'm not sure.

The toasters were only stock on the 350v64, which was introduced in the mid '80s.

The 350 V came about in '94 with toasters, prior it was a standard model, or Liverpool. There is a shot of the 350 with Hi-Gains on the RIC site under the Gallery photos in the 1980's decade pictures on the second page.

Also, the 350 with hi-gains had 24 frets whereas the 350v63 has 21.

Does anyone find it odd that RIC introduced 'vintage reissue' guitars like the 350v64 that never existed in 1964? It's the same with the 660v model. They are all nice guitars, but I will continue to stay away from Rickenbacker models that weren't available in the 1960's.

Good point, Randy. Kind of hard to be a vintage reissue of a '64 model when the original didn't come along until two decades later.

Stan: I realize that they are simply building guitars with the styling/playability that people want, but there is a historian hiding deep down inside me. The 350 is designed to provide a 325 look without the 3/4-scale neck. The 660 is designed to provide a 620/12 look with a wider fingerboard. I myself prefer to learn how to deal with the short scale and the narrow fingerboard for authenticity.

Randy, isn't a simpler explanation that you like the fingerboard that matches your mind? (LOL!!!)

Post# 6666 & a chop so low Randyz has to look down to look up.

Coincidence? Perhaps...

Paul: That's okay. When I read your message last night, I initially wrote a response that would have required Peter to pull this thread. Then I thought better of it, logged off and went to bed. No offense taken...
