Here's a little poser for the weekend, this song was Ringo's showcase on The Beatles first UK album and I am assuming first US album.
This single was released in 66 but to best of my knowledge not in UK, only US and Europe. Act in question did not have any commercial success despite releasing a few singles.
However anyone who is into pop history will probably know who this is.

Yes I agree although I've never heard him sing, the drums were loud in the mix which would be a good hint also, I thought it rocked actually. Would Pete best being a drummer do a song that Ringo had made his own though? On the other hand maybe it was a stock part of their act back then and Ringo took it over from Pete when he joined?

Well, the only thing i know for sure is that Best
did his own version of this one (according to AMG...)

My vote would be for Pete too.... whoever it is, the drumming is pretty good but it's not nearly as good a recording as the Beatles version.... but then what is?
If there is one thing that might lead me away from a Pete Best guess it's the reliance on the snare instead of the tom which Pete used so much for his "Atomic Beat".

The weekend is over, as it seems... so, are we all wrong?

Only 3 entries and as you later searched for the answer Sheena clearly you are correct it was Pete Best.
Personally Kent I think it stands up pretty well to The Beatles version, though why he would want to release a number associated with them is questionable.

Hmmm... actually, not later, to be true, after i've listened to the track, i had no idea but i've identified the song & searched through AMG... so, i've chosen Best just because it seemed to be the most likely answer (the sound reminded me of the Beatles), it wasn't very honest by me but in fact i really had no clear idea who it might be (my first thought was it could be Eric Stewart or perhaps Ric Rothwell - the voice sounds a bit similar to me, but not the arrangement)...
And yes, i agree this version is pretty nice - instrumentally...
