Has anyone here had any experience with a Chandler 555? I made my first non-RIC purchase in over 10 years...

See what happens when you let a strat and a Ric alone together for just one minute?

No experience with the Chandler....but congrats on the acquisition! It looks very cool.

Once I get it, I may replace the p/ups with RIC p/ups. Of course, it may sound great with the stock ones. These 555s are licensed by RIC. Or they were.

Interesting. I'll bet the Rick did all the seducing of the Strat...or is that too anthropomorphic?

Jwilli, do you know if the same licensing agreement applied to the old Charvel Surfcasters?

Paul, I've never asked JH about the Surfcaster deal but I'm sure that Charvel had some type of licensing agreement with RIC.

Well, it arrived today. A very cool guitar. It feels like a 660 to me with a wide/thin neck. JUMBO frets. I mean JUMBO, unlike a RIC. The mini humbuckers are pretty hot and i still may replace them with RIC toasters. I'll have to post a pic. Hey, its licensed by RIC......

I've still got it right here. I never changed the p/ups, they sound great as they are. Will put a pic or two up later.

Begrudgingly. It's a long story that I'm not going to tell.

They used to have slotted headstocks - now they're solid.

The 555 is a great guitar - looks somewhat 350ish (which I suspect is behind the licencing) but is more like a Les Paul Special/Firebird/Strat hybrid. The slab body and moderately chunky neck profile hark back to the LPS, the triple minihumbuckers to the three-pickup 'bird, and the string spacing and pickup switching are Stratesque. I've seen a few go on ebay at around $1k, which is cheap given the build quality, playability and sonic versatility. Doesn't do the Rickenbacker jangle brilliantly, which is ironic given the cosmetics, but does a good job of covering most other bases.
