Changing strings on the "R"

Here's how I change strings on the R tailpiece....after some trial and error.

I put the card from the new string pack under the R to protect the finish.

Then I put the G string on first (on the guitar!....har, har) then the D....then work my way from the inside strings to the outside strings.

If I put the E string on first, like I used to do, the tail piece goes crooked.

I read how some guys use masking tape. But I haven't needed it. Maybe when I get a 12 string I'll have to resort to the tape method.

Some use a capo.

Changing strings one at a time works for me. I never remove all the strings. I like to keep tension on the necks of all my "working" guitars and basses. I also use a capo for the 360/12 and for the 325 Hamburg. The B5 Bigsby's are a challenge without the capo.
