Saturday night (2/18/06) I went to see Dean Mentjes' band, Inspected by 12, in Springfield, IL. They play a great variety of covers from the 80's and 90's in addition to several of their originals. They brought the house down! It was quite obvious that they are a local favorite by the number of Inspected by 12 fans in attendance.
Dean (and the rest of the band) were gracious enough to let my guitarist and myself sit in on Mustang Sally. Very cool gesture on their part.
Dean's main axe of the night was his '94(?) 4003JG. This is identical in appearance to my '04 4003JG. Being identical basses, I was amazed at the difference between them. First thing I noticed was the Dean's neck was much more thin and shallow than mine. It was a sweet playing bass. Likewise, he had slightly larger body wings and a slightly smaller headstock. I did notice that there seemed to be less neck dive on his bass. He played out of a nice Ampeg rig that shook the baseboards. A good time was had by all.
