Paul, wow, what a treat; that is the first thing I saw on my computer this morning. I saw the original airing of that show and it is a part of my memory forever regarding the "good time" 60s. When we (our group "The Galaxies") heard "Lies" for the first time we thought it was the Beatles. Listen to it again and picture Lennon singing lead with Paul and George doing backup, on Ready-Steady-Go (a regular TV appearance). To-the-T I might add. Their followup song was similar called; "One Track Mind," maybe you can find some footage of that one as well.
I always associated the lead player playing the Ric 360 because of this footage but some have said that the actual recording was a studio musician playing a Tele through a Fender amp. Maybe not. I'd rather think it was the Ric through a Vox.
John is right about the Van Ghents. Rickenbackers and Gretsch were a big part of the sound during the 60s. Of course Fenders were too.
Thanks for the treat!
