I can't see why it sold so high, but there were two zero-feedback bidders bidding late on it, so maybe the 'real' bidders didn't know better than to bid beyond reason.

Others, and myself, have wondered this exact same thing. I found it baffling at first. But some earlier posts (I recall) have suggested that possibly these are bought by people who don't live in metropolitan areas and don't have easy access to stores that carry a number of guitars (especially Rickenbackers).
[There were a couple of other explanations too but I have forgotten what they were.]
I might suggest a new theory: supply and demand. From reading various threads it seems that some people have been waiting a year (or more) for their ordered guitars to arrive. Perhaps it does make sense to pay a little more (even for a used instrument in excellent condition) if it means getting one's hands on a Ric right away instead of waiting for months and months.

People bid it up because it had a 'normal' TRC.
... JUST KIDDING!!!!
... but if Ric can do it for this 12-string, why not all of them.

This 12er just got lucky. As I said before, the top curve of this one is far from normal. Just compare it with any 6 string TRC and you'll see what I mean. This is not as distorted as some, but it still is not a comfortable shape.

Supply and demand? Well, when your supply (regardless of location) always includes eBay, with six to twenty of these on any given day, and this is the most common color to boot, $1475 is still way too much.

If you look again at the headstock photo that Kent posted.....someone may have reshaped the TRC. Notice that the nut is not original.
