Lemon oil on 4003s?

Hey all I just got a 1985 4003 and it has not had much polish love so I was going to polish her up and clean up the fretboard with some lemon oil. My friend told me not to do this at all on a Rickenbacker fretboard since they are finished. He said that it would mess with the finish on fretboard and would maybe eat away at it or mess with the wood or something. He said to use the same polish you use on the body on the fretboard. Is that true? I have heard of alot of people using lemon oil on the fretboard and the back of the neck so I did not think it was bad. So do any of you guys use lemon oil on the fretboard or back of neck? Also anyone familiar with lizard spit lemon oil that is the one I got. Thanks for any advice.

I highly recommend Dr. Duck's Axe Wax. A little bit goes a long way and it is safe on everything.

I've used lemon oil on my Montezuma Brown 4003 and nothing bad has happened.

CV finished Ricks have little or no exposed wood that would benefit from lemon oil. I am not sure what the long term effects of citrus oils would be but I am guessing it would not be harmful. The best thing to do is clean the finish and then apply a good carnuba wax and buff with a soft cotton cloth. I have used Goo Gone on particularly sticky / dirty finishes and then waxed after. I hear that naptha works to degrunge too.
