1965 Ric 365: My First Vintage Ric!

I've been keeping my eye on this old 365 for some time. It was getting to the point where a new Ric with the vintage style pickups, vibrato, and vintage case was approaching the cost of what I was able to buy this one for. So, I took the plunge! Other than for some nicks in the back of the neck the guitar and case are in really fine shape. More importantly, it just sounds great plugged into a Vox amp with those 40 year old pickups! I posted some photos at:

Michael, That's a very nice guitar you have there. The Van Ghent tuners finish it off in my view. Why buy new when you can buy vintage, eh? Well done! Image

Congratulations, Michael! That's a lovely example from the era - I too like the tuners!

As I recall I saw my first Rick 'in the flesh' in 1965....

A friend of mine has a '66 mapleglo 365, and it's the best sounding Rick ever. The reissues don't come close!

Thanks everyone! I was looking at the reissues and with the current prices inching ever closer to the asking price of this one I just had to get it.

The only thing I'd like to do is swap the strings out for a fresh pair. Can anyone recommend a set that I should use? I was going to string her up with a new set of the Ric 10-42 compressed strings.

That'll do it, Michael! I use Rotosound and Darco 10-42s also but the Rick strings just have that extra 'jangle'. Image

Hey Aithc, I like Darco strings, too. Good strings at a good price.

Excellent price, Doc. The Darcos work out at around half the price of Rick strings over here - $8 versus $15 - down to $6 if you buy 10 sets or more.

My good mate Brian Medway recommended them to me as a cheap alternative - they are cheap but not cheap - if you get my drift. Image
