I love Roger. His stuff was the stuff that I started out bass on. "Piper" is one of my favorite Floyd albums. I do like Roger's P bass though.. the definitive look for a P bass for me.

Anyone know when he switched to the Fender full time?

He's playing a sunburst P-Bass on the "Live in Pompei"(sp?) DVD, which was pre-DSOTM. No Ric in sight.

I believe that he bought the 2 precisions round about the time David Gilmour joined the band. They were used for all of the Albums up until he left the band.
I think he took one and left the other which was the one that was used to record DSOTM which Guy Pratt used on the Division Bell Tour for the DSOTM set

I thought he bought a jazz bass too. He used it for sound effects or something.

Roger's P's now are custom shop recreations of the bass he used at the Wall concerts. Both look exactly the same, except one is drop-D for "happiest days" and "ABITWPT2".

I like the blacked out thing. I would like a black P with a maple fretboard, white pickguard and the bridge and pickup covers. That'd be THE Dark Side bass.

Pratt used a P? Sorry, the only Fender I can picture him with was from "A Delicate Sound Of Thunder" when he used a natural Jazz bass on "Money". I need to buy the P.U.L.S.E DVD.

Rog used the all black P at Live 8 too.

Didn't know he was using custom shop repros, Nate. That's cool, I thought it looked pretty new.

The only thing I don't like about that P is that it doesn't have the white trim around the pickguard. A little *too* black for me.

Oh, and I also only remember Guy Pratt using a Jazz.

Guy Pratt used to own Precision number 011! It actually went on the bay a couple of months ago but i missed the end to see what it went for.

After Delicate sound of thunder came out, Guy listened to the older stuff on that album and realised that using Status and Spector basses on the older stuff wasn't working so bought number 011. He also has a '59 and a rare 64 jazz in burgundy mist.

I have to admit that I am am huge Floyd fan and they are still the best live band I have seen, even though it was 1994 when I saw them and I've been to lots of other gigs since

"Status and Spector basses"
I wondered what those were. They sounded too 80's for old Floyd. His overplaying didn't help either. I like his overplaying with the P bass. Image

Ok, yer right John, Roger's P is too black. A three layer guard in B/W/B would be nice.

Wow, 011?! Ka-ching!

What bass is that? (pic stolen from P.U.L.S.E)

That might be the '58. Was that taken from 'one of these days'?

I've just checked as well and the 2 black Ps were '71s, before that Roger used the sunburst P that you see on 'Live at Pompeii' complete with both chrome covers.

Interesting to note since we are getting a bit away from Ricks is that John Deacon from Queen used a 4001 in their first couple of years before moving to Ps like Roger.

I am a big Queen fan as well.

Well why do people move from 4001's to P basses? Geddy moved from a P bass to a 4001 though, lol. Did they think the P gave more bottom, or what?

I like Queen too. Image

Roger's black P's had covers way back when too right? I just tried to google it, but couldn't find a decent picture.

Here's a pic of Rog's Sunburst.
