New arrivals

The two latest arrivals were opened today. I bought a Fireglo V63 (on the "Rickenbackers Wanted" Forum, "4001V63 for trade" thread) from a fellow in Brooklyn, N.Y., and it is gorgeous mint. Oh man. It could use a setup, but I'll let it calm down after its trip before monkeying with the truss rods. He at first wanted to trade it for a new Hofner bass (he's not a bass player, but a big Beatle fan), and I told him I'd pay him $1,700 for the V63 including shipping, and he should be able to get a new V63 Hofner for that including shipping from Northcoast. Deal.
The other is that snap bargain $500 BIN Jetglo 4003 (a 2003) with Bartolini pickups badly wired inside. I was a little worried that I might get what I paid for, but the thing is dead mint also. Just gotta put the original pickups (included) back in, get a retaining nut for the ROS outlet, rework the wiring, and adjust the trusses. Then I'll get to work on customizing the replacement pickguards (black with white edging I figure). I might trade the standard white TRC with the black one on my Fireglo Laredo and give it a white edge, too. Hmm.
Photos of these and the Fireglo 2060 to come. Whew. I think I'm done buying for a while.

I'm glad they arrived safely and you are happy with the condition! I feel your pain with the need to curb purchasing for a little while.

Well, really, I am done for a while. I just didn't say how long "a while" will be. But I've just about depleted my bass account (the little woman feels better when I'm not dipping into the household budgets), and I've gotta save up for the refin of my '72 by Paul W.
I spent the last few buck of my account just now on a black pickguard and black treble pickup surround from Pickguardian. Now I gotta find that soldering gun.

I have 15 and I am building 2 more ... I make the budget go further by getting some non ric basses and the Rics I do have are not the rare collectable ones ...

I just tried white edging on the black/chrome TRC from my Laredo. I used Polly Scale water-based acrylic and dabbed it on the edges. When it was dry, but not cured (about 10 minutes), I used a Windex-dampened Q-Tip and wiped along the top of the edge to sharpen the demarcation line. Looks super. I applied a single coat of Future floor polish over the entire TRC, and will apply another tomorrow. I'll mount it on the Jetglo 4003 and take a pic and post it here and see if you like it. The white TRC went on the Fireglo Laredo; the size and screw holes were identical, so the same mold was used for both TRCs. Nice.

I'm looking forward to seeing the pics, Paul. Hopefully your new Ricks take care of your RAS for a while. I'm starting to feel that bug again right now!!

I agree, Jeff. I'll try to get a shot of it, too, later today, I hope.

OK, here's a couple of shots of the white-outlined "bound" black/chrome TRC taken from my Fireglo Laredo and applied to the Jetglo. It look alright, but perhaps not enough "reveal" on the edge. What do you all think?

And here's the TRC from the Jetglo applied to the Fireglo Laredo. Look normal. Yes, that's a B string. Extra credit to those who can identify the model airplane behind the Jetglo!

I think the Jetglo with that TRC looks cool. Give that headstock the Scratch X / Zymol treatment and it will look great.

It's a little dark in the pic, but general shape looks like a Harrier with lots of arms pods under the wings...

Good, Alvaro! An AV-8B Super Harrier, U.S. Marines, 1/72 scale Hasegawa kit (that's my OTHER business).
