I know that vintage guitar prices in general are continuing to climb, but based on a quick look at ebay, there seems to be a considerable increase in the prices of 60's era Rickenbackers. Have I just not been paying attention?

No you're right. Some have increased more than others. Just look what's happened with the prices for 4005's in the last year!

There really has been a significant increase on all the 60's stuff in the last couple of years. I'd say the basses have appreciated more than the guitars generally, but all models have increased dramatically.

I'm out of touch John. What are we talking on a '63 625 (mint-ish)?

Graham, the '62 625 MG just sold on Ebay for $4000.+ also the '64 615 that sold for $4100. a couple of weeks ago. Now, I don't know why either of them sold for so much......but they did.

Just saw a special report on MSNBC. The smart money is saying sell your vintage guitars now, buy them back the next recession.

Glenn: Okay, got the message. How cheap should I sell them? I've got a lot to get rid of...

Glenn: Does this mean I should consider, after all these years, doing away with my buy high sell low philosophy of everyday living?

MSNBC also says that flatwounds cause cancer...who do I believe on this?

Money gurus and Las Vegas East (aka Wall Street) irritate me.

Y'know, when Japan hit the skids a while back I didn't see any big bail-out on their part to get solvent or profit-take, or whatever.

BUT if anyone is thinking of being philanthropic, my address is...

>>How cheap should I sell them? I've got a lot to get rid of...<<

Depends how many you have. Putting them all out there at once might drive prices down for an hour or two.

>>Does this mean I should consider, after all these years, doing away with my buy high sell low philosophy of everyday living?<<

I thought I was the only one who felt like this.

>>MSNBC also says that flatwounds cause cancer...who do I believe on this?<<

That's MAY cause cancer. And only in rats that play guitar a minimum of ten hours a day.

>>Y'know, when Japan hit the skids a while back I didn't see any big bail-out on their part to get solvent or profit-take, or whatever. <<

I just read their economy is coming back (with all the Toyotas they're selling, how can it not?)

Whether they're buying up vintage Ricks or not again I don't know though. The bass player from my old band sold his 80s 620 a few years back to someone in China. A trend? I don't know.
