Mike, Peter Collins turned Geddy onto Wal basses, he used them on about 4 LPs...one of my biggest influences for sure.

Didn't know that, John. I see where he produced an album for Rush and has produced a string of good-looking hits throughout the last twenty years: Some hits produced by Collins include Philip Bailey and Phil Collins' number three R&B/number two pop hit "Easy Lover," Bon Jovi's number four pop hit "Always," the number eight R&B/number ten pop hi "Pass the Dutchie" by Musical Youth, Tracy Ullman's number eight pop hit "They Don't Know," and Indigo Girls' Swamp Ophelia, Alice Cooper's Hey Stoopid, and Blancmange's "Don't Tell Me."

Here is the Wal I own that used to belong to John Entwistle:

That's sure a beauty Mike. There was a Wal similar to yours floating around for sale that belonged to Percy Jones of Brand X, I saw it a couple of times at a booth in Philly....

Geddy sounds good playing any bass ... but I still prefer the Ric ... and you gotta love those long arpeggios that the guitar, bass, and drums play together ...

My second favorite bass sound. I take a lot of what I play from that version of YYZ and put it into what I play. Just mix up what I hear from the live versions really. I love that sound! It's just so precise and bright. And I love to hear the click of the bass strings getting hit by the fingers.

Those close of shots of his playing.. very interesting. The way he sticks his thumb WAY out. I taught myself to play like that.. it's pretty helpful when playing Rush, but awkward when playing other stuff, like Maiden.

I'd kill for a bass with two big, wide humbuckers like a Wal has. It's gotta have that sound though!Image

Go to "YYZ"

Amazing!

And Geddy's doing adds for Fender now! Makes me kinda sad!

That's one the custom shop did for him. That would have made a great Spinal Tap ad, LOL..

LOL!

That's his step down 2112 bass. I like it. It's be a little cooler looking if it didn't have that damn jazz control plate thingy though.
