Odd, but Original.....

I would like to start a thread on the peculiar (No, not me)....I was inspired by a chapter title in Richard Smith's book....
As we all know, Rickenbacker has made some very unorthodox and quite unique instruments throughout their history, such as the Banjoline, Bantar, instruments with slanted-frets, custom-orders, wild finishes etc..odd-balls...you get the picture.
Anyway, if you own or know of instruments such as what I have mentioned above or have pics, post them here and we'll discuss them. I have one of my own that I will contribute sooner or later....this should be a cool thread as it grows with time....post away and thanks.

How about this one: 381/Blueburst/Van Ghents (late)/Accent/no soundhole- but binding around where it should be.

Damn, we're off to a great start guys. Possibly the original Blueburst Rickenbackers, save for the Symphonia Grand.....

"no soundhole- but binding around where it should be. "
That's bizzare. What year?

I wanna say 1970-71, JWilli will know for sure. These were special orders for a dealer that was good friends with F.C. Hall, if I recall correctly. The earliest I've seen with the bound sound hole outline is from 1967...

Love the headstock binding on T Blair's 381. Two really cool pieces from that late 60's/ early 70's "custom" period that is really interesting IMO...

VERY cool guitars. Headstock binding on Ricks is just awesome.

The 381 isn't mine (wish it was). This isn't mine either- Very early New Style 365 from 1964 w/ Van Ghents, bound violin f-hole, and non-checkered binding on the back:

Noticing the handsaw. Does it belong to Gerry Marsden the Casemaker?

Paul: Let's hope not! (I was thinking the same thing).

Wow, I'll bet that one is pretty early, it is very close to the '64 that JWilli has.
