I got the Ric blues kinda bad right now. I know for sure that
most of you have had them too, so I know that I'm in good company.

I looking to get a 381/12v69 right, but every one that I find is not in the color that I want.

I don't want JG, MG, BB, BBR, etc.......


I want Fireglo or better still Amber Fireglo!!!!

(Just the sound of that gives me visions of a warm and toasty fire on a cold winter night.)

This is THE Ric color IMHO. MB is also cool but only with gold guards and TRC and I hate the thought of changing these out on a brand new guitar.

So the wait continues....hopefully for less than the 12 to 18 months that I am hearing for others here.

So My question to all here is,

How important is the color of your Ric to you?

I've more or less stumbled upon all 3 of mine, so I had no choice in color.
When ordering a new one, I'll pick a color I don't already have. I like most colors, but MID is looking very good right now (I have a JG, FG, & white).
Amber FG sure looks great with figuring in the wood!

Of course color is important!

My favorite 3 Rick finishes are Blue Boy, Azureglo, and Jetglo. A nice Fireglo is always a pleaser too. Currently, I've got one BB, two JG's, and two FG's.

I'm not a big fan of the three M's - Mapleglo (Except maybe on a 4003 or a late 60's 360), Montezuma Brown, Midnight Blue.

I like Mapleglo and Fireglo. I like to see the wood. I also have Jetglo, Burgandyglo and Walnut.

My first Rick was stumbled upon, as well. It was Midnight Blue with black trim. I never really cared for the combination (it was one of the really dark MIDs), but I couldn't pass up a 360/12 for $400. My wife loved the color and was disappointed when I sold it to get a 620/12 in Fireglo (a color she doesn't appreciate). I'm sure all will be forgiven when my 370/12 Blueburst finally arrives.

Charles, i'd like to hear a recording of you playing the Rick Blues once your 381/12 arrives!

As soon as it is green or dark brown... color is not important!

Most of mine are Fireglo since it is my favorite RIC color but I have one Turquoise, one Burgundy, two Montezuma Brown, and three oiled Walnut Ricks too. I have never been too excited about the Mapleglo or Jetglo ones I have owned.

I think color plays a big part in actually bonding with the guitar. If you don't love your axe, it'll go unappreciated. For me, Fireglo and Blueburst are my favs on some models, while Jetglo is my fav on some models. I like to see a good burst on a 381v69 with tons of flame to it while on a 325, 620 or 350 I'd settle for Jetglo. I currently have 2 Bluebursts and have a 381v69 BB on order. I also have the usual Fireglo, and Jetglo RICs. Gibson has, or had, Les Pauls in trans black, I'd like to see a RIC sporting that color. That would look really cool on a flamey 360 or 381v69.

I'm with you Brian. I currently have a 1997 re-issue in MG, a 325c58 in MG (alderglo) and a 450/12 in FG. The MG is kinda bland looking unless the wood is flamey, birdseyed or otherwise figured in a pleasant way. My 1997 isn't but it was the only one I could locate and it was after that model was discontinued.

The solid colors look better to my eye on the "student models" (425,459,900 & 1000), But when you get to the upper scale models they pale in comparison.

I think that most of the solid colors are more popular because they are considered rarer and in some cases this is in fact true. I doubt that JG wouldn't be that desirable if it wasn't for JL use of it. If he would have never painted his original 325, Ric's color history would have surely been different. Just my $.02.

If I ever do get a 381/12 it won't be playing the Ric blues anymore, it will be "Joy to the World" or the Hallelujah How I Love Her So"!

Don, I think you're 100% correct. And it's not just color but the overall design, look and feel. As you say, ya gotta love your axe.

As far as WHICH color is the MOST beautiful? FG? JG? MG? Hey, it's personal preference. That's why Baskin-Robbins has over 1,000 flavors.

I like the darker FG. Someone in the forum mentioned the 90's as a great time for FG and necks. My 91 330 FG is blood red FG. I also really like the MB, but it is so new, I don't see it as a Ric. The 330 I saw in person from POTR was absolutely beautiful. If I was professional musician, playing out, the JG would be the classy tuxedo wedding guitar, like a black beauty Les Paul.
