A few days ago I was reading some buzz on a blue 230 that was relisted on EBay. This guy has a red one: http://www.guitarsandeffects.com/zotherguitars.htm

I used to have one. Unfortunately its Ric's bargain basement model .... not up to their usual high standards, IMHO.

I've got one and like it a lot. But then I just accept it for what it is. It was my first guitar and I got it used and is a 1989 model. I've had it since 1991 and wouldn't mind having another at some point, but $599 is a little too much.

I just picked up a ruby red 230 on Ebay for $401.00. The finish was peeling off and the rear control cover is missing but I have plans for it. I'm in the process of sanding the finish off which will be followed by reshaping the body into a 3/4 size 360 complete with slash sound hole routed into the top and contouring at the rear. I'm changing out the pickups for RIC HB2's and keeping all of the really nice original Schaller hardware. It's getting a set of vintage knobs and I think an oiled finish like the 650's

That probably already has the HB2's in it, unless its from before 1989. Mine is from '89, which is when they switched from single coils to humbuckers in this model, and mine has the humbuckers.

Mine is from August of '86 and is definitely single coil. In fact you can tell RIC used the same pickup shell as they used on the 3000 series basses after having broken the ears off to use them with the floating pickup system.

What are you going to do with those single coil pickups Dane? I might be interested in them. I have a pickup maker friend who is very curious about how those were made and how they work. Plus, I might just have to build myself another guitar and stick those on them if you were willing to send them my way?

Sorry Greg but they're already on their way to Jeff Rath in exchange for an HB2. Ricky humbuckers are my faveorite.

Ahha....well maybe next time. Image

I'll have to see if I can get some specs from Jeff, or borrow one to get some tests done for a little while then.
