Hey Paul, Where you at?

Hello Paul,
My name is John, I'm a new member to the forums. I have been reading your other threads with great interest, you are an amazingly talented craftsman. I noticed that you live in Marin. I grew up in San Anselmo, and now I'm up in Petaluma ("You can pet a horse, and you can pet a cow, but you can't pet a luma" That always seemed funnier before I moved here). While my Ric will likely never need your services (it's a Bakelite steel. Wait, I can see it now, a B7FG! LOL), I was curious where you teach. I have always admired (and aspired to) the ability to take raw materials and turn them into beautiful things. It's (hopefully) never to late to teach an old dog some new tricks!

I live in Mill Valley, right down the block from B.J. Hunnicut...

I spent 35 years in the Industrial Design field, both as designer, and as precision craftsman building all kinds of stuff from computers to medical devices to toy prototypes to full-sized and scale model automobiles.

I've been restoring and modifying guitars since about 1975, but am fairly new to Rickenbackers, having bought my first Rick (I now have 9!) only 15 months ago.

I manage the 3D Industrial Design program and teach product, transportation, toy, and furniture design and fabrication at a huge private design school--7500+ students--in SF. I teach students how to design and construct everything from those large 1/4-scale clay models that you see in car ads (students build about 200 of these every year) to products such as flashlights and life aids for handicapped folks to table lamps, and anything you can think of in products and vehicles.

BJ Hunnicut! Very nice Paul! I was more of a Trapper John fan myself.

John, my wife grew up in Petaluma and I was raised in San Francisco. The Forum world keeps getting smaller and smaller.

Tell your wife that the chicken ranches are all gone now...

Chickens:

Yesterday morning's press conference with the Chief Buffoon was a hoot. He paused in the middle of one of his inane 12-year-old-contemplating-the-nature-of-Spam monologues, to offer this remark:

"I'm just tryin' to explain some of my philosophical tenants!"

(Perhaps he rents to Plato or Schopenhauer?) He misused the word at least twice more in the same conference.

He went on to describe those who raise poultry for a living as "chicken growers".

Plant me a drumstick, honey! I'll be home for lunch soon!

That's where I'm at.

Um, sorry about the political content. I know I promised, but...

He really does have some tenants in there, but "they ain't payin' no rent!"
We're no better off north of the border.
