Ric's Always Deliver

We need to wake up this topic! Anyway, I am back into recording guitar again. On my current project, I had already laid down a bunch of guitar, almost all of the vocals, and then drums, for 11 songs. My bass player friends could not give me any time, but one gave me a Ric 4001 (what a friend!), and now I play bass ! It's fun !! So, after weeks of laying down bass, I had to face more work, adding guitar layers. At this point, I started to wonder if I was getting burned out on these songs, losing interest, getting tired of all of this work, etc. Then, I busted out my Ric guitars, started recording them in stereo, by mic'ing two amps, fed from a series of pedals. Get some nice compression from the JangleBox, dial in minimum distortion on the Ibanez Tube Screamer, add a tad bit of chorus, get some stereo delay going, feed output #1 into Fender tube amp, set for clean channel, feed output #2 into Line 6 Flextone III on Matchless Chieftan setting, roll back the output of the my 360JG, to get it more clean, roll back the bridge pick-up a little bit more, start playing to the music. Instant chime, sparkle - a full, wonderful, mystic sound. We're back on !! I can see the finish line !! Rickenbackers rule !!!

"Rickenbackers rule".
How right you are Steve. They are my constant inspiration & nearly all my songwriting is solely based on the sound of my Rics.
I'm glad that the recording is going well for you. You seem to be experimenting a bit, which is always good & with the Rickenbacker sound, you really can't go wrong!

Steve, I'm just starting to mess with Ric-o-sound after about nine years of playing Ricks. Live and recording. Any tips? Anything weird to expect? FYI I am using a 620 with a Fender Cyber Twin, Fender Princeton Chorus, and a Roland JC77. I'm thinking maybe use the CTwin and JC77? Thoughts? -Jason

Hey guys, I'm back, after the birthday hang-over ... 39, and loving it !! Tony, right you are !! Like you, I write many a song based on the Ric jangle, it feels right at home. Unlike you, however, I do mix the ocassional growl of an SG or screaming Tele into the mix, but I'm a frickin' amateur. Sometime later, I will post these tunes, they're pretty sweet. It's hard to make a Ric sound bad, in my opinion. When I listen back to what I have done, it's inspiring. All I have on there are bass, drums, acoustic guitar, single lead vocal, and the Ric 6-er, recorded in stereo. It doesn't need anything else !! That wonderful Ric chime is all that is required. Jason, I actually don't use Ric-o-sound. My effects pedals only have mono inputs, so I just plug into those. I would like to experiment with it, but I never have.

Happy belated birthday Steve.
I know, I haven't sent any out & I promised I would....please accept my apologies. I will see to it by the weekend.
I've been playing Rics for 28 years now & have NEVER used ric o sound. My favourite gtrs are 330's though & they don't have it, but I'm just starting work on the new Carnivores album, so perhaps it is time I used it on my 360...just for one song.

That would be great, I'll send one of mine when finished, it's kind of groovy. I'll even subject myself to your acute ear and unflagging commitment to professional recordings.
