Hi guys, some of you I know from the FDP, others, well, it's nice to meet you!
I watch this forum a lot but don't post much since I don't know much about Rics...only that I love the one I have. I already own an '86 4003 in mapleglo with black hardware and trim. But......

I just bought ("won" is a misleading term) this one on eBay.
Are there any opinions of the the value, the condition, the bass itself, etc, you'd like to share?
I truly appreciate this forum and your collective expertise.
Hi Ron! It's mailmanmike!
Thanks!

Hello, Mike,
Gorgeous bass! Congrats on such a beauty. These have been going anywhere from $1600-$2500 in the last 6 months or so. When they go for the $1600 (sometimes less) it usually is a buy it now where the seller listed it reasonably low. When that happens they are usually gone in 3 or 4 hours. I think the highest price for a fireglo V63 in the last year was about $2900.
For the condition of your V63, I'd say you've done extremely well. It is one of the nicest I've seen. Again, congrats!

Thank you Andrew!
Wasn't sure what the actual going rates were, but it seemed close. Glad I didn't "blow it" on the high side and screw up the market for future buyers.

Thanks Ed!
Just a bit about me, I am not a collector, and will probably gig this bass, though very carefully, as I always take really good care of my stuff. I think it's gorgeous, but then most Rickenbackers are...

Hey Chris...loud you say???
hmmm, well I guess that's what volume controls are for!
Do you think it'll sound alright through my '73 SVT / 8x10?

Well done, Mike!
"Glad I didn't "blow it" on the high side and screw up the market for future buyers"
No, that was Matt Malley from The Counting Crows who screwed up the 4001CS market!
Definitely gig with it, mine is my main gigging bass.

Thanks Jeffrey Scott!
You MUST be a cool guy, that's my brother's name, and he's the best!
Looks nice, I just hope the seller hasn't hidden anything!

Welcome to the Ric Forum, Mike! i have a v63 and love it. It's set up with Pyramid flats right now to get a really deep tone. And you probably know the rest of the collection from hanging around the FDP

"No, that was Matt Malley from The Counting Crows who screwed up the 4001CS market!"
LOL, Jeff! I remember that one. What did he pay? $5000.00 back when the going rate was a little closer to $2500.00?
Nice score, Mike. That one looks very nice. I saw it on ebay and salivated for a moment, but then turned my head!

Howdy Ron! (my Ashdown-loving compadre)
Yep she looks purty OK, we'll have to see how she sets up and plays!
As an aside, to get the Chris Squire sound, should I go with Rotosound round?
Thanks!

That's funny... last year I picked up a CS (absolutely MINT!) off eBay for $3600. Then I got an email from the seller saying he's been offered 6K by another dude, but he knew he had to give it to me for obvious reasons.
So we worked an arrangement to split the profit, and I would go ahead and ship it off to Danny Carey (drummer for Tool).
We all made out!

All I can say to you is . . . lucky!!!! I'm still waiting for the odd MapleGlo V63 to pop up for a reasonable price . . .
As for the Squire sound, RS66 would be authentic, but pretty much any steel round will do. Actually, you might wanna try DR Hi-Beams or DR Steel Lo-Riders (the Hi-Beams are lower tension than the Lo-Riders). They sound awesome, last a REALLY LONG TIME, and don't eat frets.

Hi Mike! Welcome to the V63 club! Looks like a nice one. It's a little more than I paid for my FG about two months ago, but your's is in better condition. So, I'd say you done good!
Robert, did you say Mapleglo?
