I know the song well, but the artist.....
At some points it sounds like an Aussie singer from the era - Doug Parkinson - but I don't recall him being into the the high-pitched screamin' stuff!

My first impression was that it was David Clayton Thomas. But I have never heard him sing this song.

Me?! No idea...
To me, it sounds a bit like "Fortunate Son" by CCR, both musically and vocally... or vice versa... but i'd bet this is not John F., albeit sounds similar at times (i mean screams), and very familiar, too.

Yes, it is most certainly Sympathy for the Devil.
I'll give 45 minutes longer for artist (so you won't have to go sleep tonight not knowing).

That's unfair, Mark! Too little time, and you haven't even given hints as to if it's a UK or a US artist...
Okay, a shot without aiming: Bryan Ferry? Doesn't sound much alike, but...

...or Brian Jones?..
Not Ozzy, i suggest, albeit it would be cool if it was him...

OK, I'll give you more time.
American.
"Artist" can also mean a group, band, etc.
