Hello,

I'm interested in getting a ric. I've only had a chance( due to availability, and what stores around here carry) to play a 620/6, but I must say it was a fabulous experience. I'm interested in getting a 6 string first. and have had an interest in the 360, 620, and 660...and the 350SH(which probably will never happen). Right now, I play an American deluxe series Tele. I play through a TopHat Club Royale (Class A 20 watt EL84) 2x12. The music I play is pretty much all over the board ( Brit influenced pop music, indie rock, alt country, etc etc). Looking for something that sounds great clean, semi-clean, gritchy, and smooth when nicely over driven.

also where would be a good place to search used? I've tried eBay...but always a little skeptical of that

I bought three guitars off eBay without any problems. Good luck on the SH. Half the Ric players on the planet want one of those, me included.

You can find some good buys here in the "For Sale" section.

Don't be afraid of eBay--I've had good luck buying Ricks there. Read up on the ins and outs of eBay in general, so you won't be thrown by all their rules. Decide what model you want and establish your price (more reading up) and don't get caught up in the auction mystique and overbid.

The members of this Forum are pretty good at spotting eBay Rickenbacker-for-sale scams, so keep checking in and you'll know which ones to avoid.

Google the kind of Rick you want and you will find links to some guitar stores that have 'em. Try gbase.com. Other members will have more ideas.

The versatility of a Rick will amaze you!

I think I'm actually going to shoot for the Ric that caught my eye and started my fascination with them before I ever knew what a Rickenbacker was...and that would be a Jetglo 360/6. Classic and classy, yet simple. Any years better than any other year if I go the used route?

Back story of my own: I owned a 360JG for a while and really liked it, but was forced to sell it eventually. Ever since I sold it I had wanted another one, and finally one showed up - a really cool one - a 360CW Carl Wilson Limited edition. These guitars are pretty rarely seen in Jetglo, but they're basically a 1965 360 reissue, except with a thinner top for added resonance.

This guitar is absolutley amazing in every way - ultra-thin neck, great tone, and cool vibe. My suggestion is that if you are so inclined and can afford it, FIND ONE OF THESE! Not only are they a joy to play, but will continue to climb in value and rarity.

If you're perfectly happy with a new model, that's fine too - If you can find a good deal on one from the early 90's, i've played some real good ones from that era. But you really can't go wrong with a brand new one either.

About the 620: Again, if you can afford it, the 660 is amazing. I have a 660/12 and it's my favorite guitar. The fretboard is real wide, unlike other Ricks. The checkered binding and full-width inlays are of course two of the most desired Rick features. But again, you can't go wrong with a 620 either.

Welcome to the forum Sean. A 360, or a 330 are both classic Rics that you will be delighted with. The solids are great, but nothing sounds like a Rickenbacker thinline in full flight!

Sean, like you, I was fascinated with the 360JG. I suppose you are an R.E.M. fan, like me ? However, when I bought my first electric guitar, in 1994, my friends talked me into buying a Strat, so, I got a BLACK one, but it didn't have the sound or vibe of the black Rickenbacker that I really wanted. In 2004, I decided to finally buy a Rickenbacker, they had a sweet 330MG in the local store, so I bought it. As good as that guitar sounds and plays, I still wasn't completely satisfied. Last year, thanks to the "push" that I got from the members of this forum, I finally got my 360JG, and it is beautiful ! I did fiddle around with the string type, and finally settled on flatwounds, and it is now smoother in sound than my 330. Overall, it is dreamy, and I would use it as my #1 if I ever played out. One thing I can say about this guitar is, ordered straight from MF, it had the best set-up, out of the box, of any guitar I ever acquired. It has never given me a problem, always plays in tune, and always sounds good. I have never played the Carl Wilson, which John recommends, but I would love to ! Get it !!

If you want the sustain of your Tele, the 620 may be a better choice. But you will NOT be disappointed with a 360 by any means. -Jason

What year is that from ? The swirls in the finish are normal, they all look like that in certain lighting. I want to try that 360 JG CW !!

John, that is a fair price for that used 360 JG. The only thing that I didn't like was that he wants $100 for shipping in the US. Kind of steep unless he plans on shipping it next day air. I just shipped my 660/12 to its new owner in Canada via FedEx 2 day air and it was only about $150.

I actually wrote that guy about the shipping costs, and he stuck to his guns and said it was to cover the materials as well as the shipping. I get boxes for free from the local music store, and bubble wrap/foam peanuts certainly aren't $70 worth of materials (costs about $30 to send a guitar & case).

Left a bad taste in my mouth. Seems like he's trying to get $1k by overcharging for shipping.
