At my last gig, I realized that my cabinet was too heavy for me and I want to keep my back for a long time so I sold it recently.

I am looking for any advices from you guys who use Rickenbacker basses. I am a fan of Dave Meros ( Spock`s Beard ) Tone and I like some grit and a good overdriven Tone. I will keep my faithful SUNN 300T head. I am looking for something lightweight and possibly ( most likely ) two separate cabinets. I prefer making two easy trips than one big heavy trip in the stairs at 2:00AM !!!

I consider the Genz Benz line but so far did not have the chance to try them yet. I also like the EDEN 1X15 and 2X10.

Let me know your opinions !!!1

I just bought an Ashdown 2x10 recently and it is a godsend in sound and as well on my back! I'd recommend 2 seperate cabs in terms of ease of transport.

I highly recomend Avatar speakers . The Neo series are very light and kick *** !

These get me the tone you are seeking. They are loaded with Eminence Delta Pro 15s.



Given that the cabinets are Canadian, I would think you could find them rather easily.

My portable rig is just 1 15 inch SWR Son of Bertha. I usually play with a pretty overdriven tone and it sounds good. Is that Sunn a tube head? If it is tube I think you could get away with just using one cab. With the 1 15 and my SVT I can keep up with a loud drummer and guitar player. If you can find an old 4x8 SWR cab or even the 8x8 SWR (pretty light considering its size) then try that out, you would be surprised how much air they move and they are pretty punchy.

I love the tone and portability of my Ampegs. A 2X10 w/horn and a 1X15.

I hear ya, Kevin. I have an Ampeg B5R head which I run thru an Ampeg Classic Series 1x15 and a "noname" 2x12 cab.

I always get compliments about my tone (I play a 4004L).

Ampeg Portabase 2X10 cabinets are like 35 lbs. with a handle and wheels...very portable. I have seen guys use two of these, or one paired with a separate 15" of some sort (there is no Portabase 15"). I use the 410 HLF and love it but it is on the heavy side.

The store here never received the Genz Benz gear as promised.

After Barry`s comments about the Avatar, I realized I forgot to check that line of cabinets, which I only heard good comments.
So, I ordered a B210 NEO ( 44 lbs )and a B410 NEO ( 65 lbs ) and I have 14 days return on them so I can easily give them a good try. Also, with the money saved, I am now looking for another Ric or a Mus*cM*n !!!!

I like the 410 config. and an added 210 on top.

So, I will let you know what I think next week !!!

I'm about to take the plunge and order a compact 15" Markbass combo. Its so small and light. I may go for the matching, equally as small and powerful 15" extension cab for bigger gigs with no main PA.

Only 3 trips from the SUV to the stage. Lots of sound. The drummer never knew what hit him

I use a couple of custom made 2x12 ported Thiele enclosures for the same portability reasons but if I were going to buy something off of the shelf, I'd get a pair of Ampeg PortaBass 2x12 cabs. They use neodynium magnets and have a pull out dolly and wheels on the cab.

It kind of depends as well what speaker configuration you prefer.

I love the sound that modern 15"s give and couldn't go for 10"s or 12"s as they don't suit my style.

Be careful with extreme volume using NEO speakers. I had a pair of Eminence Deltalite 15s in my Traynor cabinets. For one gig I used just one cabinet and the PA was so bloody loud that I had to keep turning up my amp, and NEO speakers tend to loose their sensitivity as the magnet heats up during use. As you can guess, the more the speaker heated up the more I had to turn up the amp and this snowballed into a blown speaker! I have never had this problem with traditional speakers. So, as they say, be careful out there!
