RIC 4000 Reissue

SO MUCH FOR THAT IDEA! HERE IS A POST FROM JH ON THE RIC WEBSITE. WHERE IS JOHN ANYWAY?
"There is almost no market for a single pickup bass. Look for this one to be reissued after the 4005/12 bass".

Well, the only market for single pickup basses is dominated by two: P-bass and Stingray. And one of them sucks.

get a 4001s or a 4003s and convert it to a 4000 ... or buy a 4000 on ebay ... or wait for the 4005/12 ... personally I'd love to see that headstock on the 4005/12 ... and I am also waiting for the metallica polka CD ...

I wish people would push for new designs and developments from Ric rather than reissues of older designs. It must drive a company head crazy to be badgered for items out of production that didn't sell well enough when they originally were made to survive.
BTW....not polka but I'd recommend the "Fade to Blugrass" Metallica tribute CD. Pretty interesting.

why not just buy a 4001 or 4003 and set the pickup selector to the treble pickup only... ;P
I can see why reissuing the 4000 is not a so smart... kinda like issuing a Jazz bass with only one jazz pickup. Why would you get that if you could just get a normal jazz with the second pickup?

My 4000 doesn't sound like the isolated back pickup on my other basses, or indeed on the hundreds of others I've played, although I'm sure the set neck has a lot to do with that.

I would be happy with a five string Rickenbacker!!! I don't need a hollow body bass or a single pickup bass ...

I'd love to try a set neck 4001 and see what that sounds like, although I'm aware of the argument that the routing may affect neck stability.
And I want a 4003 8 string, i.e. with deluxe appointments. Can't imagine I'm going to get one though!

The way the necks are inserted makes them pretty strong. It is very much like the bolt-ons of a 4080.

Glad you said that Ted, I may try and hunt one down one day! I'll resist the temptation to take a router to my 4000...

Actually, the bolts just reinforce the neck on the 4080.
Still a different sound between the 4000-4001-4080.
None are alike. As similar as a P & J bass are to each other.
That's why I've stopped gigging my 4000: the soundguy hates it because it's got a little less bottom & A LOT more mids & highs! He just lowers my level in the mix when I use it, so I might just as well stay home as use it.
I just take the 4001, 4080, & Peavey 5 string.
I can only carry 3 anyway.
