Especially with no neck break, those can go for a lot of money! That's a heck of a return on investment!

it's strange i played that bass in metal and punk bands as a kid and beat that bass we would jump in a van and tour the us. and the head stock never broke.
yeah i got it from a junkie semi-pro musician (i wont name lol)who was on hard times .

I really don't mean to sound rude or anything like that, But I just checked out that Ric on ebay. Looks nice, but IMHO I could purchase a brand new one for what that "Buy It Now" price is. So why would any one want to pay that much or possibly more for a "USED" Ric? Or for that matter any USED instrument unless it was a "VINTAGE" one? And not that I feel that the whole "VINTAGE" thing is worth it. It's been my experience that if the "NEW" price is $1100, then the "USED" price should start around $450/500. How about some feed back on this.

Except there's that whole "wait 15 months at least for a new one if you can't find one not already reserved at the various authorized RIC dealers" thing.

Or the "they don't make that color any more" thing.

Joe,
I agree. Used prices are crazy. At least we know Rics keep their value.

Jimmy, more power to you if you sell it at the price you want. In fact more power to all of us with Rics. Most anything you buy NEW the minute you walk out the door of the store the value drops 25-40%. Try selling a new card a week after buying it you'd never get full retail. It's nice to know they hold their value, but it stinks if you want to pick up some used Ric's cheap. The old days are gone.

I'm thinking that $400 to $500 for a barely used Rick is theft! I got a very beat 4001 for $400 Cdn, & that was a fair price. An almost new 4003 should be worth at least $800 to $900, depending on condition.
That seems to be the going rate on a like new condition 4003, & this one looks pretty mint.

Also, $1100 may seem a bit high since now the warranty is invalid (2nd owner), but he is a forum member, so you can be assured that you're not getting scammed, & some folks just can't wait for a year & a half!
The $920 is reasonable & high enough to weed out the speculators (emp26), & it's helping a fellow Rick addict buy a house.
Perfect for someone who's already made up their mind to spend that amount on a new one. Like Rikk said, the days of the lowball deals are pretty much gone. Ebay took care of that.

I paid 800 bucks for a 2004 4003, and sold an 87 for 800 bucks. I like that price for used Ricks!

Ah yes, the old "Musician's Friend estimated availability date" ploy. A guitar player pal o' mine ordered his FG 360 from them and ended up waiting 4 months for it from a similar availability date and that was just a few months ago.
