Recently fitted a push/pull pot for the vintage tone selector. Works great, but, I find the shaft is potruding quite high from the pickguard. Anyone else done this mod, and any ideas for cutting down the size of the shaft.

Thanks.

Could someone explain how to do this mod to an older 4003?
I (will) have one from 2003.
I think I've to order some electronics from here,

put a washer under the pickguard and that should take care of the height ...

Thanks for the advice Jeff.

The problem I have is that the push/pull pot is hard against the bottom of the cavity. I only just managed to get the pick guard to sit flush with the body. If I put a washer on the underside, the pickguard will be bulging!
I'll probably have to try and trim down the shaft itself.
The vintage tone idea is fantastic. I've wired mine opposite to Rickenbacker. Capped is down and un-capped is up. I prefer the cap sound. I wanted the option of a more Fender type sound for the odd song that we do that requires it.

Have to get the Dremel out. Oh dear!!!

I'm seriously thinking of installing one too. Certain songs we play require two guitars and no bass, and what I do now is either bring a guitar, or capo my Ric at fret 7 or 8 (yes I actually do that!), and push the bass-cut switch on my GK amp. The VTC will do a better job.

Could someone post like schematics or directions for modding the bass this way? Like, how to add a cap and how to put in and wire the push-pull switch?

I would be interested in some directions for this too. Thanks.

From Phil's Ric link, it looks like part number 07345 or 07346 could be the push-pull pot? Where did you get yours Mark? And what size cap do you put in. The .0047MFD or 0.47 cap that Ric has, or another one?

Hi

I got my pot from WD Music supplies. 'Coz I live In UK I can't order from RIC.
All you need is a 500k pot with DPDT switch. I think SKU 07345 from RIC boutique. The capacitor is .0047mfd.
I didn't follow any schematics. Just changed some wires. It's pretty straightforward. The push/pull pot is just a switch to change between cap or not.
I'm sure 1 of the experts on this forum should be able to help you out with schematics.
I now own a 2004 Monty Brown with Vintage Tone Selector for less than a tenner!
The shaft on the pot is a bit long, but hey the bass if for playing not for looking at. Although it is gorgeous!!

I had real trouble finding the cap. It's also known as a 4.7 nano farad cap. I had to buy a complete set of capacitors for about £8 from Maplins. Expensive, but worth the money.

You may not be able to order directly from RIC, but you can order those parts through a RIC dealer.

Wait, so which cap is it? The .0047MFD or the .047 one?
