Hi, the links below show my Dad's steel and a shot of one of the covers from the under side. The 5 covers appear to be made from a solid white plastic material instead of enamel over metal. Is this common? Thanks for any info (and sorry if I've managed to post this thread more than once).

Merc, Nice looking guitar. If I have my facts right Rickenbacher gave up a lot of metal in the early forties to the war effort. That included the chromed brass plates, and the high compression molds that the bakelite was formed in. All the post-war bakelites were made from old stock. You have the wide horseshoes which some people think is a plus. Me included. With plastic plates narrows down the year. I'm thinking Wartime. Some fine guitars have turn up recently. Aloha, David.
