I've got a Comanche and just love it. IMO they are up there with RIC. There is not a flaw on this guitar! The Comanche took some getting used to at first,then I discovered the tone knobs. WoW, you can make this guitar sound like anything! Strat,Tele,Les Paul even. Anyone else here enjoy G&L's? Here is a pic or two:

J.C. I have checked them out at the NAMM Show but have never really played one for a time. Would like to though.

I'd buy another one site unseen.

Cole, A few years ago I went to Houston to do some recording and used a couple G&L's that belong to a friend. One was a George Fullerton and the other was some sort of ASAT. The Fullerton is one of those signed Strat-like guitars, and I forget if the ASAT had the normal looking Tele pickups or the bigger ones (whatever they're called).

Anyway, they were completely stock and just plain perfect in all respects. I agree - I'd buy one sight unseen too.

G&L's are amazing. Best kept secret in guitars.

Fine, fine instruments and both are EXTREMELY versatile.

I can't understand why the resale value is so low on these?

I had a blueburst SB2 bass a few years ago and I'm kicking myself daliy for selling it. Beautiful ash body blueburst finish with natural binding and gloss neck. I could only get $425.00 for it! Funny thing about that bass, it had 2 volumes and no tone control. I hated that.

Yeah, that's the only drawback for these. I bought my ASAT bass brand new & I'd be lucky to get 1/2 of what I paid for it back. Not really an issue though as there's no way I'm getting rid of that bass! The prices on eBay are slowly getting higher. I don't understand what they don't hold their value either. They are GREAT instruments. I think that F***er was really gunning for them in the "lawsuit years". I think that hurt them a lot. F***er knew they were getting their *** kicked by George & Leo!
I REALLY want an SB2. I've seen 'em in that $400 range...

I didn't realize that the SB2 didn't have a tone control. How big of a problem was that for you?

Yup, it was a problem for me, that's I got rid of it. I wish I had soldering skills then. The bass is really bright so if you like that then it won't be a problem. I like getting all sorts of tones out of one bass. Those MFD's split P's are VERY hot! I always have to back off on the tone on all my guitars.

Man...talk about hot? Check out those dual ACTIVE MFD's in that ASAT of mine! They're scorchers! I always have to use the low impedance input in all of my amps with that one. I'm gonna try lowering the p/u's but I love the cutting tone...

Yeah, no tone control on the SB2 seems odd - especially with that pickup configuration. I almost bought an old style one on ebay 2 weeks ago that only had the "P" style MFDs.

One of the guys over on GuitarsByLeo.com says he takes the springs out from under his pups and lowers them all the way down. Says it still sounds great.

Speaking of ASAT's; I wonder if RIC higains are similar in construction to the MFD's? They sound close to each other IMO.

Yeah, I can't really speak with any authority on the guitar comparisons, but I find the basses to be very different...but in a good way!

I will say this: for American built instruments both Rickenbacker and G&L are in the same neighborhood for build quality, fit & finish & all around CONSISTENCY.

Much more so than the more popular American built instruments. (2 companies in particular...)
