There is a picture in a past issue of the UK Bass Guitar Magazine of John Entwistle playing one!

I sometimes wish I had one of those when I am traveling. I could have used one the past couple of weeks.

IIRC, Höfner made a smallish solid-body travel bass around that same time, but I don't think it had a battery. I haven't seen any on the 'Bay for a while.

It's a tiny 18" scale, fretless, has silicone strings, and supposedly sounds close to an upright. The one Jacob linked to has the old friction tuners. The newer ones are better. You can find them on eBay for $250.

I've played one. It was fun but would not consider it a serious instrument. Scale is way too small. and the strings are like rubber bands. It does sound a bit like a double bass but not enough for me. YMMV.
