Why did Rose-Morris...

... only (to my knowledge) import the 4001S and not the standard Deluxe as their Model 1999?

Or am I completely wrong, and they did import the standard series 4001 over the years they were in operation?

I'd hedge a guess Henny and say that Rickenbacker probably wanted as many of the deluxe models for sale in the domestic market. The "S" with the basic features was probably not anticipated as being a big seller for the majority here, (where most want all the bells and whistles) and it was probably very convenient for the export market that arose.

You probably could get a deluxe 4001 back in the 60's in the UK, but I am sure that would have been a special order scenario.

Who ever discussed the original order with FC Hall asked for austere versions of the Rick range with dot markers, no binding and F holes etc. They chose a version of the 4000 with the extra pickup. The import deal only lasted until about 1968 before someone else took over.

I would also venture that it was a matter of cost.
The deluxe models were more expensive. Might be
that Rose Morris would have a broader market with
the standard models which weren't exactly cheap after
the import costs....
