Any chance of Rickenbacker offering checkerbinding as an option on their basses? I think a Montazuma Brown 4003 would look very cool with this.

Until the day that RIC opens a custom shop (if ever), don't count on seeing checkered binding on a 4003.

RIC custom shop....that would be great! Finally I could have my fingerstyle friendly 5 string RIC bass with the options I want. Or maybe a Jetglo 4003 with checkered binding and a toaster pickup in the original neck position, and a horseshoe style in the bridge position.

The 4003s5 becomes very finger friendly if you have small to medium sized hands and stay with it ... normal spaced 4 and 5 string basses now feel weird to me ... all of my 5 string basses are tight spaced ... this makes for faster playing ... it took me a few monthes to get used to fingering the 4003s5 ... but now I love the spacing and feel ... this bass is very good for the John Enthwhistle typewriter method, the plucking method, and of course picking ..

I have several 5 string basses which are 4 string conversions ... I have 2 4 string jazz basses converted to 5 string models .... yep ... I fit 5 strings on a neck with a 1 1/2" nut ... it is really fast playing ...

If my 4004LK ever arrives, it'll have checker binding!
