This is a series of questions that I have had on my mind for some time now.

1. How may of us on the forum are lead players?
2. What is your Ric guitar of choice for playing lead?
3. What is your favorite genre?

So I'll go first.

Okay, here it goes:

1. Yep, I play lead and rhythm.
2. 650C Monty Brown (Secondary 610 FG or 360 FG)
3. Classic Rock, Southern Rock, Oldies, Country & Blues.

Disclaimer: 3)All those are my favorite genre's.

I play lead by default.
The only Ric I own is my 330/6 and I've only had that a couple of months.

1. I'm a Lead player.
2. 660/12 (only Ric I own so far, and yes I use it to play lead on more than a few songs.)
3. I like and play just about any genre, but use the Ric on classic rock, southern rock, blues and jam rock.

As a three piece rock band, I use a 12 on about 25-30% of our live set & as a result, have to play solos on a 12. My 360V64, or 381 manages the job superbly.

1) As John Lennon once said, "I'm a rhythmer." But it's simply because I like it. I'm a schooled player and can play lead perfectly adeptly, but blues and jazz type leads don't go with the music I play. I just play lead when noodling around.

2) I like my 330 best for lead, though if I had a 650 it'd probably be a different story. Though i do love the tiny frets on the 330.

3) I don't play lead in the music I normally play, but my favorite lead players are Charlie Christian, Mark Knopfler, Dave Gilmour, George Harrison. I'd say I emulate them and their styles the most.

1. Mostly rhythm but some lead.
2. 620 or 650 for lead.
3. 70s/80s rock and blues.

So far 5 lead players and two who play some lead but mostly rhythm.

It will be interesting to see how this trend plays out as hopefully more forum members answer the questions.

Also it would be interesting to see how hollow body Rics fare against solid body Rics.

Perhaps we might even learn what is the favorite genre for Ric lead players.

1. I'm not really a lead player at all, but am trying to improve in that area!

2. I find that the 220 works really well, and some of my attempts at leads actually sound okay on this guitar.

3. The genre I play the most is praise & worship; I also love to play blues, folk, and rock.

1. I started out in my band as the lead guitar player. That was before I got my Ric. Now I still play lead, but I (almost) always carry the melody through small changes in chords throughout the progression. The result for my playing is that I'm technically a lead guitarist, but because of the Ric, I play lead rhythmically. That was basically a winded way of saying, "yes, I play lead."

2. The only Ric I own: 360/6 FG. I guess that puts me in the semi-hollow club.

3. I can't honestly say that buying my Ric changed my favorite genre, so I think that disqualifies me from the question. Still, if you're just curious or need a control in what is shaping up to be a pretty comprehensive (and interesting!) exploration, the music that I play is alt/art-rock. As far as a favorite genre, I like all kinds of stuff, but I tend to favor rock quite heavily.

Seems like Ric owners, obviously talented enough to play a Ric, can cover lead parts but prefer the Ric's performance in a rhythmic context. Interesting.

1.I play both lead and rhythm guitar, but I play ALL the the leads in my band.

2. My favorite Rick for playing leads is my fireglo 360/6. Its not my favorite lead guitar, but its my favorite Rick for playing leads.

3. I play primarily hard rock, metal and power pop, with a little punk thrown in for good measure.

1. I'm a guitarist. I'll play lead, chords, swanky wah wah parts. Whatever the song takes. My favorite role might be SOLE guitarist in a group, leaving all the sonic guitar space for me and my Rics. In Pyramid Builders Union, my co-guitarist and I split the leads 60/40 (cos he's busy singing).

2. My Ric of choice is my lovely 1997SPC/VB FG. It is my go-to guitar for virtually everything. Second in line is my 360V64 JG. It actually breaks into a singing lead sound with more ease than the F-hole model, but is less versatile without an Ac'cent vibrato (soon to change). The 360 seems to have a slightly smokier, blue sound, while the 1997 has a more compressed, pretty tone (and maybe more twang).
Both guitars tend to surprise listeners with their tonal range and great sound!

3. I play modern rock with tips of the hat to British Invasion, Madchester, and the better aspects of late 80s/early 90s music. In the last few years, I've been mining the works of Les Paul and Scotty Moore for inspiration.
