Now that I've joined the wonderful (and expensive) world of Rickenbacker, I've become intrigued with the Vox Tonelab. Is noise a problem with the Tonelab? Is a noise gate included among the effects? I would be using it with a Jangle Box, which in my experience tends to be a bit noisy anyway. Will the Tonelab accentuate the Jangle Box' noise or control it?

Forgive me if this topic has been beat to death. I briefly researched previous discussions of the Tonelab, but still have questions before diving in and buying one.

It does have a noise gate with adjustable parameters. I've been unable to eliminate all the noise with this combination (yet), however. YMMV.

Mine is definitely noisier than my AD120 head. Not sure why. It does seem to be a common thing. I do get it reasonably quiet with the noise gate.

Okay, let me ask this...how accurate is the acoustic simulator on the Tonelab? With semi-solid body like the 330 12, in a band situation, will it sound convincing in those situations where an acoustic 12 string rhythm makes more sense than strumming chords on an electric 12 string?

I like it a lot, and once again, you can play with the parameters to get just the sound you like. It's not just locked into one sound.

I agree, Paul. I too get lots of smiles with it (still do, every time I use it).

The acoustic simulator is one of the more versatile effects on the Tonelab. Depending on the guitar, your can get great acoustic tone, or quite amazing crystaline tones. May favorite acoustic use is with the "Boutique Clean" amp model, but things get very interesting with the high gain models.

With any type of guitar, start by keeping the effect set middle of the road, keep the guitar volume down and use the neck P/U, tone wherever you like. Then crank up the amp. mmmmm!
