Shipping from UK to the USA

Hum, to make this Rickenbacker or music related. Let's see. OKay.

So I purchased a book (really) that I bought on ebay from a vendor in the UK for 12.5 pounds (About $21.95). To ship it to the States via "Paper mail shipping," he said it would cost an additional 13 pounds. That more than doubles the price! Is this a reasonable shipping cost to ship a lightweight book to America?

Or, to put it in a way that won't offend the forum, if I hypothetically purchased a Rickenbacker book over ebay from a vendor in Britain and wanted it shipping to the USA, how much SHOULD it cost?

I'm not familiar with UK shipping costs, but it's not a secret that many eBay vendors make their money on inflated shipping and handling costs. To that end, I always nail down shipping costs before I bid on anything. I hate surprises!

That seems a little steep for a presumed lightweight paperback. I just received a package from the UK this morning that would be around the same weight as a light book and shipping cost approx 7.50 pounds sterling about $13.

Those cheeky Brits.....

A lot of book shippers use Media Mail, which saves them money, but takes FOREVER.

I purchased two books (Bacon & Day Rickenbacker and Gretsch) on UK ebay and the total cost to mail was 10 pounds. Seems like you're not being ripped off, Scoobster - UK overseas mail rates are high!

Your right there Steve! I bought 'The Ultimate Gtr Book' from a US seller. It took WEEKS to come, by which time I bought another...so now I have two!

To send airmail to the US from the UK, is more than twice that to send to Europe!

I see. Thanks for the heads up. I guess in the future I should look for stuff to buy in the US... unless it is a 331LS... in which case grab any one at a great price and fly it over myself!
